The Nature of Language and its Implications for AGI
A trans-rational perspective from an integrative East-West standpoint
Here are a couple of my preprints that I just uploaded to PhilPapers and am seeking a publisher for.
The first manuscript explores the nature and origin of language from the perspectives of Abhinavagupta and Sri Aurobindo.
This complements my previous essay on what I call the “integral cosmology” of Sri Aurobindo, examined from the perspective of contemporary consciousness studies.
The second manuscript, which is related to the previous ones in a sense, addresses whether artificial intelligence can ever truly understand the world—going beyond mere mimicry of reasoning to achieve genuine semantic awareness—or if we are moving toward some form of general artificial intelligence (AGI). I argue that true AGI would require consciousness; a machine cannot truly understand anything unless it is conscious.
If you're brave enough to delve into all of this, you will gain a truly integral understanding of these topics from scientific, philosophical, and spiritual perspectives, bridging both Eastern and Western viewpoints. Enjoy!
